The premier Christian Camp
in Latin America
As a result of a successful youth ministry and a growing camping program in Costa Rica, La Montaña Christian Camps came into existence. Nestled alongside the Tilarán Mountain Range on 650 acres, La Montaña borders a large cloud forest preserve. This area abounds in nature’s wealth—rivers and streams, virgin forests, and exotic birds and wildlife.
La Montaña’s Phase I Camp, completed in the year 2000, has a capacity for 300 campers. The facilities include boys’ and girls’ cabin areas each with a large bathroom, a dining commons, a chapel, a gymnasium and game room, a sports field, high and low ropes courses, a large pond for water games, staff and guest housing, Timothy Lodge and a office/reception area.
Opportunities abound for studying the area’s biodiversity and for hiking through forest trails. Exciting recreational activities, sports, hiking and back packing, mountain biking and roller-blading furnish fun for all. Small group Bible studies and dynamic speakers bring each camper face-to-face with Jesus Christ, and the dedicated staff serves to make every teen’s camping experience life-transforming.
Timothy Institute for Leadership Training: An internship program geared to train and motivate youth leaders from Latin America in evangelizing and discipling their generation with the transforming message of the Cross. Utilizing the gifts and abilities of pastors and teachers from Latin America and the United States, as well as La Montaña’s dedicated full-time staff, each session provides unique insights into the character of God and how we must live in response to His revelation. In addition to the regular class schedule, interns serve as counselors and part-time camp staff.
Back-packing Jungle Camp: In the upper portion of the cloud forest we have developed a 1-3 day survival camp for small groups. Campers and leaders learn to live and work together in harmony with nature. Cooking their own meals, rock climbing, river hiking, trail blazing and nature studies are part of the learning experience. To know God better is the ultimate goal.
Sports Complex: Across the overpass foot-bridge from the Phase I camp is the sports complex, offering novel activities such as a water slide, the famous “Blob” and bike jump, as along with other water sports. The sports field will greatly expand our recreational activities, allowing for mountain biking and grass boarding are some of the exciting new activities.
Hydro-electric plant: We have taken full advantage of our vast water resources to build a hydro-electric plant that allows us to become self-sufficient for most of our electrical needs.
Self-supporting Ventures: We are raising beef and dairy cattle that provide both meat and dairy products for our campers. We are also raising Tilapia fish in our hydro pond. These projects enable us to make our camper fees more accessible to the average young Costa Rican.
Future Development
Community Center: Adjacent to the camp on the main highway leading to the Volcano Arenal, we will be building an out-patient clinic for medical, dental and eye care as well as a large meeting place for church services and literacy classes to serve area neighbors. A General Store and Coffee Shop will generate funds for camp scholarships. Both will serve as a Christian witness.
A Premier Youth Camp in the upper 600 acres of cloud forest will accommodate 700 additional teens. Construction is set begin upon completion of the Community Center. This new phase will enable both camps to accommodate almost 1,000 campers.
